April 22 : EARTH DAY.

A day that concerns us all, wherever or whomever we are, the EARTH is our precious temporary home we need to take great care of.

There is one very worrisome matter (PLASTIC) , we could change overnight if we did just the following:

STOP USING PLASTIC BAGS!!! Boycott the use of PLASTIC bags , set an example , always take your own shopping bags with you. Plastic is one of the biggest destroyers of our environment, animal life, sea and fish, our earth. (takes as long as 1000 years to decompose). Fish and animals get plastic in their stomachs, suffocate often, and the ocean is filled with plastic debris.

So make a vow: STOP using PLASTIC bags and if you can, also refuse to buy water in throw away plastic bottles. lets make a very big difference, overnight, to our world, our future.

Supreme Court rejects plea to bring back Kohinoor Diamond

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday said it cannot pass an order to the United Kingdom for reclaiming the Kohinoor Diamond or stop it from being auctioned.

The verdict comes after a plea was filed seeking directions to bring back the priceless diamond to India. However, a bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar said it is impossible for the country to ask a foreign government to not auction a property.

The court made it clear it could not pass an order with regard to a property which was in another country.

"We are quite surprised that such petitions are filed for properties which are in the USA and the UK. What kind of a writ petition is this," the bench, also comprising Justices D Y Chandrachud and S K Kaul, commented.

The apex court referred to an affidavit filed by the Centre and said: "the Government of India continues to explore ways and means with the UK government on the issue."

The petitions, filed by an NGO, the All India Human Rights and Social Justice Front, and Heritage Bengal, a registered organisation, were tagged together by the court last year.

The pleas had said "India won independence in 1947. But successive governments at the Centre have made little or no attempt to bring back the Kohinoor diamond from the United Kingdom to India, the place of its origin."

"Whenever issues have been raised, central governments maintained on the floor of Parliament or in reply to RTI queries that Kohinoor is an Indian artifact but claims for repatriation thereof cannot be made for the same is not covered by the UNESCO Convention, 1972. "The lackadaisical approach of successive Governments in making positive and meaningful diplomatic parleys has not been in the national interest. All attempts on the part of the petitioners and other right-thinking persons to activate the Central Government have failed," they had said.

The Centre had earlier told the Supreme Court that Kohinoor was neither "forcibly taken", nor "stolen" by British rulers but given to the East India Company by the rulers of Punjab.

World’s ‘heaviest’ woman Eman Ahmed lost 242kg in two months, says doctor

Eman Ahmed, the Egyptian woman who came to India in February for treatment, has lost 242 kg, said Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, the doctor heading the team of surgeons treating her at Saifee Hospital.

A little over a month after she was put on a special diet, which was followed by a surgery on March 7, the 36-year-old now weighs 262kg — an improvement that has also helped her organs function better.

Dr Lakdawala said the extent of the post-surgical recovery was beyond his expectations. “The surgery (Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy) and a special diet has helped her lose 242kg (or 50%) since she landed in India.”

The sudden weight loss is surprising for her doctors because they were expecting a slow drop.

Last month, Dr Lakdawala had said after the surgery:“The initial improvement will be because of rapid water loss... we think she will lose another 20-30 kg a month over the next few months.”

But the rapid improvement of Iman, who weighed 504kg when she came to India, has left her doctors pleased.

More than 50 Afghan soldiers have been killed after Taliban suicide attackers disguised as army personnel targeted a national army base in northern Afghanistan. It’s the deadliest attack in the country since July 2016, when two Isis suicide bombers killed 80 Hazara protesters.

According to Zulmay Wesa, commander of 209th corps in Balkh province, a group of suicide attackers manning at least two Afghan national army vehicles managed to pass the first security gate on Friday afternoon.

When they were stopped at the second gate, one of the attackers blew himself up, and the rest entered the base, Wesa said. They went straight to the mosque where ANA soldiers were praying, and opened fire.

“After prayer we went outside and saw an army vehicle with three to five people in. They came out and opened fire with Kalashnikovs,” said a bodyguard at the base, asking not to be named.

Elsewhere on the base, at least one attacker went on a shooting rampage in a dining facility, according to an American security official. He also confirmed that “probably more than 50” had been killed in the attack.

The US military confirmed that coalition personnel were present at the Mazar-i-Sharif base, but there were no reports of casualties.

In a statement, the US military in Afghanistan condemned the attack.

The City of Charleston now owns the property. The Angel Oak Park is free and the tree should be added to any visit to Charleston, Kiawah or Seabrook Islands. In fact, if you are going to Kiawah Island or Seabrook Islands, you will likely drive within a few hundred feet of the Angel Oak Tree
